Greens Now Support Wanton Vandalism
- Deputy Govt. Chief Whip
"What
is more shocking is that a public representative, and the leader of
the Green Party in this country, should condone what is essentially
wanton vandalism against the property of a friendly nation," stated
Deputy Government Chief Whip Billy Kelleher TD.
"At a time when resources are at a premium, it is incredible that Trevor
Sargent should seek to justify the damage done to a plane in Shannon
during what has been termed a "Peaceful Protest" which is now going
to cost the taxpayer in excess of half a million euro." "The support
which public representatives like Mr Sargent give to such acts of vandalism,
only serve to encourage others to engage in similar activities and will
end up costing the taxpayer through local and state authorities even
more money at a time when it is needed for our health service, schools
and other public services.
" The Green Party should condemn such violent activities and apologise
to the taxpayers for encouraging the type of protests which cause damage
and waste the state's valuable and scarce resources," concluded Deputy
Kelleher TD.
