PRESS RELEASE05/08/2005 Cork scooped €39.5m in sports grants in past five years - Kelleher Cork North-Central Fianna Fáil TD Billy Kelleher has said Cork has netted a staggering €39.6 million in sports capital grants since 1998. This year alone, sports clubs in the county got €7.9 million in grants designed to give young people the best possible facilities to enjoy themselves and compete for sporting honours. ‘Cork has a proud sports legacy. Our young people have driven that legacy with their commitment, talent and enthusiasm. It is crucial that we provide them with the best facilities to sustain our tradition and provide social alternatives to pastimes that can destroy lives rather than enhance them,’ said Deputy Kelleher.
