PRESS RELEASE

Jan 2005

Riverstown National School

Glanmire Deputy Billy Kelleher warmly welcomed the announcement from the Minister for Education about Riverstown National School under the 2005 Building Programme.

“Under this year's programme which she announced on January 10 th St. Joseph's National School has been sanctioned to go to tender and thereon to construction.”

“I am delighted by the news, there is no denying that we were all very disappointed by the set back in 2002. However, many people having been fighting for a long time to see the project reach this stage. It is a testament to the Principal, Board of Management and the Parents Association that they have sustained the campaign for the development project over so many years.”

“Aside from the obvious population growth in the community in recent years it is the success of the school itself and the facilities that have been provided that have made it a popular choice. Thereby necessitating the extension that will be constructed.”

“As recently as Dec 8 th I brought a deputation from the school to meet with the Minister for Education in Dublin. Even though we were all very happy with the meeting to get this news so early in the New Year is tremendous.”

“I have been deeply involved with this development project throughout in good times and bad. To finally see us reach this point gives me great satisfaction not just as a public representative but as a local.”
