Kerr should put Roy Keane back in Green jersey – Deputy Govnt Chief Whip

The expected appointment of Brian Kerr as Ireland manager offers an opportunity to get Roy Keane back in the Ireland squad and give a much needed boost to our bid for Euro 2004 glory, according to Deputy Government Chief Whip Billy Kelleher T.D.

“Roy Keane is one of the top footballers in the world and remains hugely popular with the fans. We now have an opportunity to put the difficulties of Saipan behind us. I would encourage Brian Kerr to use his new position to bring Roy back into the national side.”

“With our friendly against Scotland next month and a number of key games coming up Brian will not have a long settling in period. However, I am confident that he has the ability to rise to the challenges ahead.”

“The weekend has seen some commentators in the media scoffing at the appointment of the new manager. They should remember Brian Kerrs unrivalled track record in the underage game as was shown as recently as last weekend, he has worked his way up through the ranks and deserves the support of the entire country.”

Deputy Kelleher says the appointment will be good for Irish Soccer and is wishing Brian Kerr every success during his time at the helm.
